Current Research in QCRI
My main research expertise is in information retrieval, computational social analysis, and data mining. At QCRI, I focuses on social search and analysis, with special focus on Arabic social media. I work on improving the retrieval effectiveness of searching microblogs, such as Twitter, and creating products that utilize the large amount of information and knowledge in social data.
I received my PhD degree from the School of Computing in Dublin City University (DCU) in Ireland under the supervision of Prof. Gareth Jones in Jan 2012. My PhD topic was improving information effectiveness for recall-oriented IR applications such as patent search. Before that, I received my bachelor 2005 with honours from Electronics and Communication department, Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University. I joined IBM Egypt R&D group just after my graduation. In June 2007 I moved to Microsoft Innovation Centre in Egypt (CMIC) and I worked there till the end of 2008 when I moved to DCU for my PhD degree. I received my masters degree in November 2008 from Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University in the specialization of Natural Language Processing and Information Retrieval.
